Texas Farm Pulls Fresh Cucumbers Over Salmonella Risk

June 2025 – Fuentes Farms LLC, based in McAllen, Texas, has issued a recall of 71 boxes of fresh cucumbers after routine sampling detected Salmonella contamination . These cucumbers were sold in 40-pound bushel boxes labeled Lot # 357, primarily through flea markets around McAllen and Alamo from May 31 to June 3

What’s at Stake?

Salmonella is a serious foodborne bacterium that can cause fever, diarrhea—often bloody—nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. While healthy individuals typically recover, it poses significant risks to young children, elderly individuals, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems. In rare cases, the infection can spread, causing life‑threatening complications such as bloodstream infections, endocarditis, aneurysms, or arthritis .

Fortunately, no illnesses have been reported in connection with these cucumbers and the recall isn't related to any known outbreak.
