FreshRealm Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo Recall: What You Need to Know

Last week (June 17, 2025), Texas-based meal manufacturer FreshRealm issued a voluntary recall of its ready‑to‑eat chicken fettuccine Alfredo meals, sold at Walmart and Kroger. The reason: a dangerous Listeria monocytogenes outbreak linked to the products, which has already caused several serious health incidents nationwide.

What products are affected?

FreshRealm is recalling three heat-and-eat chicken fettuccine Alfredo products produced before June 17, 2025. These included:

  • Marketside Grilled Chicken Alfredo Fettuccine (32.8 oz & 12.3 oz trays)

  • Home Chef Heat & Eat Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo (12.5 oz tray)
    – All packages bear USDA establishment numbers EST. P‑50784, P‑47770, or P‑47718 on the side

How widespread is the outbreak?

  • As of mid-June, there have been 17 reported illnesses across 13 U.S. states, with symptoms starting between August 2024 and May 2025
  • Tragically, the outbreak has been linked to at least three fatalities and one fetal loss

    How was the contamination discovered?

During a March 2025 routine FSIS inspection at one of FreshRealm’s facilities, inspectors detected the same Listeria strain in a chicken fettuccine sample that was later linked to patients                                                                                                               Though investigators continue tracing the precise contamination source, they have confirmed cases tied to these products through lab testing and purchase history

    Why Listeria is dangerous

Listeria can thrive in refrigerated conditions and can easily spread via contaminated surfaces — making it a stealthy threat

High‑risk groups include pregnant women, newborns, adults over 65, and those with weakened immune systems. In vulnerable individuals, Listeria infection (listeriosis) can lead to miscarriage, stillbirth, sepsis, and meningitis. When symptoms appear, they may include:

    • Fever

    • Muscle aches

    • Headache

    • Stiff neck

    • Confusion or loss of balance

    • Gastrointestinal issues like diarrhea

Early medical intervention is crucial — especially for those in high-risk categories.

What to do if you have this product

  • Check your fridge/freezer: Look for the specified products with establishment numbers and best‑by dates corresponding to late June or earlier
  • Do not consume them — whether refrigerated or frozen.
  • Dispose of the product or return it to Walmart or Kroger for a refund
  • Clean fridge surfaces thoroughly: Sanitize shelves and containers, as Listeria can linger on surfaces and cross-contaminate other foods
  • What authorities are doing

The U.S. FSIS, FDA, and CDC, along with state and local agencies, are collaborating with FreshRealm to get to the root of the contamination and prevent further spread. This is part of a comprehensive rollout that began with the March detection and culminated in the June recall

    Final thoughts

This FreshRealm recall is a sobering example of how even pre-packaged, refrigerated meals can harbor deadly pathogens like Listeria. At The Food Court by DSG, we urge you to stay informed and cautious—especially when your meal comes pre-cooked. These ready-to-eat trays are convenient, but knowing what’s inside and how it’s made can be the difference between dinner and danger.

Stay safe, stay savvy — and as always, thanks for dining with us at The Food Court by DSG.
